November 2017

Before half term we were very lucky to have been invited to visit the local library, the children were fantastic walking to and from the library and showed a great maturity during their visit, Toni at the library was very impressed with their sensible behaviour and attitudes. EYFS were also lucky enough to have a visit from a professional gymnast in the same week, the children loved taking part in her session and listened well. As with the rest of the school, EYFS have enjoyed getting arty this week! They have created some of their own Jackson Pollock inspired art and experimented with lots of different ways to create a similar paint effect, they have also made circular art inspired by the artist Kadinsky. Next week we will be having a rhyming focus and doing lots of different activities based on this. We will create rhyming soup, listen to rhyming stories and make some rhyming paper chains. The children have been extremely good at retaining the sounds and letter names that we have learnt so far in RML, they are enjoying learning the red words through a daily red word challenge and we are pleased to see that so many of our EYFS children are visiting the reading room .

October 2017

We have had a great time learning to use our zones in our ‘how 2’ project. The children explored the Creative Zone where they mixed powder paints and liquid paints and painted a self-portrait. They even made their own playdough at the playdough station. In the Exploration Zone the children used the pods to discover different textures, they liked the sparkly jelly bath the best! They also used the tablets and the beebots, the children have excellent technology skills already. In the Outside Zone the children became scientists in white coats and goggles to make colourful yucky potions with plastic bugs in! They also learnt how to stay safe when using the tools on the workbench and were shown where to look for bugs in Buggingham Palace. The children have loved being pirates on the pirate ship in the ‘big’ playground and have really been stretching their imaginations. This week we have started our phonics lessons and we are sure that the children will enjoy showing you all what sounds they can say and write.

September 2017

We just want to say a big, huge welcome to all the new early years children who have come in to school and settled so well into their classes, the adults are so impressed!
Wow - they all look so smart and grown up already!
A big thank you also to parents who have been punctual in the mornings and have helped us out by naming their children’s items, we know how hard it is when your child starts school. We look forward to an exciting start to their Sylvan journey with us!
