At Sylvan we are all passionate about learning. We want our children to become curious about learning, to be motivated to learn, engaged in their learning and thinking about how they learn best.

We want all our children to be the best that they can be!

It was amazing to see so many parents and carers at the Year 2 Living Museum! We hope that you had as much fun as we did.

The photographs above give you a flavour of what school life at Sylvan Infants is all about. These pictures have been taken this year and last. We hope you enjoy looking at them. We certainly had fun taking them!

World Book Day01Mar2018

Save The Date! Thursday 1 March is World Book Day. There will be lots of fun and exciting things going on that day to celebrate. To get the children in the mood for the day we are setting them a challenge for over the half term break. We would like them to read in a variety of extreme places and take a photograph to provide evidence. Could they read up a tree, in a supermarket, on a pier? We are asking pupils across both schools to come in dressed as one of their favourite book characters – at the end of the day both schools will be having a character catwalk and the homemade outfits that are judged to be the best in each year group will be awarded a prize. Good luck with your costumes. The morning will see the children working on creating a year group story which we are hoping to get published. Following on from this the classes from the infant school are all going to be paired up with classes from the junior school to do a variety of reading and writing based activities. After school, the children will have the opportunity to take part in a book swap. If they bring in a book (still in a good condition) on the morning of World Book Day they will be able to attend the book swap after school to choose a book that someone else has pre-loved. Children are welcome to bring in as many books as they like but will be allowed to choose a maximum of 3 books at the book swap event. As always children will receive and bring home a book token toward the cost of a new book.

Sport relief23Mar2018

As you may recall 2 years ago Mr Walsh ran 27.8 miles to all the infant/first schools in the borough and raised nearly £2000 in the process. Well this year he is planning to do it all over again but this time make it even bigger and better!. This time around he, along with friends Andrew Roast, Paul Renwick and new Sylvan teacher (from February 2018) Mrs Hodgman will be running from Branksome Heath Junior School to Sylvan Infant School, the long way around. During the journey (approximately 35 miles) they will visit all infant, first, junior and primary schools in the borough, a total of 32 schools. To try and raise more money this time we have asked other schools to be even more involved than last time where a member of staff joined Mr Walsh and company for a leg of the journey. We are asking other runners from these schools to challenge themselves too and in doing so raise more money for the same Sport Relief pot! The rest of the staff and children will be taking part in an active challenge to raise money for this worthwhile charity. We are asking the children to come in on the day wearing their PE kits and asking them to take part in a sporty challenge which has yet to be confirmed for a suggested voluntary contribution of £1. Mr Walsh would appreciate your support in this endeavour in order to raise as much money as possible – if you are keen to support him and the other runners please visit the ‘just giving’ page by using the following link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/darryl-walsh1?newPage=True
