November 2017

Year 1 started their first week back with 2 amazing days of art. They looked at Mondrian and Van Gogh and have used their styles and techniques to create their own master pieces. We are amazed at the FANTASTIC artists we have and how you were too when you saw them during Share Time. It was a great turn out so thank you to those who came.
Following on from the art days we are looking at the book The Day The Crayons Quit through our English and Let's Explore.
Leading up to Christmas we will be doing a History based topic and will be doing a Grandparents Day on Friday 1 December so please spread the word and ask grandparents to pop the date in the diary- more details to follow.

October 2017

Year 1 have worked so hard over the last few weeks in all areas of their learning.
They have loved using The Gruffalo as our hook into learning where they have made clay characters from the book, discovered footprints and prickles around the classroom and made Missing posters for the Gruffalo.
This week they have met ‘Uncle e d’ and ‘Auntie est’ who like to add –ed and –est suffixes to the ends of words linked to the Smartest Giant. Ask your children about it and see if they can teach you what they learnt.
Thank you to those who have sent in any bits of homework already - we have loved seeing them, especially how creative you have been! Keep them coming in!
Year 1 are leading the attendance race so a huge thank you for bringing the children here on time every day. We are yet to have Fergus for the most reading room visits so keep visiting and fingers crossed we will have him in year 1 very soon.

September 2017

Welcome back to all the children and parents in year 1. New adventures have already begun for the children as well as the teachers - with many of us new to year 1 too. The children have settled brilliantly and already working hard. We had our first mission this week to rescue Mr Walsh from the super villain and have become superheroes of year 1 with our super fruit friends to help us. Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on a range of books by Julia Donaldson and immersing ourselves in them.
Handwriting is a focus for us, getting the children back into writing since the Summer break. If you need any guidance on how you can help at home or need a list of the letter formation rhymes then please ask the class teacher. The reading room will be opening Monday so make sure you pop in and get your first books.
'Meet the Team' will be on Wednesday 20 September at 2.30 am and we look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones so please come along.
