Our Curriculum

At Sylvan all our teachers are committed to make learning as fun and as exciting as possible. We try extra hard to offer our children a learning environment that is irresistible where children can't wait to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in!

Each learning experience will have a ‘HOOK’ to get the children inspired and interested in the learning that they are about to partake in. At the end of the learning experience the children will have an ‘OUTCOME’ that they will be working towards e.g. a show for parents, an art exhibition. More often than not parents are invited into school to experience the learning that has taken place over the half term and share in the outcomes.

We are keen to make the children’s learning relevant and purposeful and in doing so will try to have visitors into school or go out on school trips. The school fosters and encourages enrichment in all areas of the curriculum. Each class will have a curriculum-based trip at least once a year.

At Sylvan we follow the Read Write Inc. synthetic phonics scheme from Reception through to Year 2.

We use a range of  reading scheme books to make sure we provide variety and interest for our children to develop a real love of reading. These schemes include Oxford Reading Tree, Songbirds, Rigby Star, and ditty books from Read Write Inc.
