Governors

Governors are an integral part of Sylvan Infant School and Branksome Heath Junior School, working with the senior leadership team and staff to provide an excellent education in a safe environment for our children. The Federation Governors meet twice a term as a whole group and also work in sub-committees or individually to discuss and make decisions about specific topics – finance, staffing, curriculum and premises.

All the Governors are dedicated unpaid volunteers who are keenly involved in the life and running of the schools. Our Governors are keen to know the views and opinions of parents, pupils and staff and are often available at the beginning and end of the school day or at parents’ evenings.

In addition, the Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities. They work in partnership with the Executive Head of Federation to make collective decisions on how the schools operates. Providing a safe environment for the children is always a first priority, but Governors work also includes monitoring the schools’ provisions, selecting new staff, setting and monitoring financial budgets and challenging the progress of children to be the best it can be.
