Parent Volunteer Readers
Closing date: Friday 15 February 2019
As part of our continued efforts to raise the standards of literacy in our schools, we’re hoping to encourage some new parents to come in and help with reading. Reading regularly to an adult has been shown to significantly increase the rate of progress that children can make with reading—over the years the Livingstone Road Federation Parent Readers have made a huge difference for a large number of children.
As there are many of you who bring your children to school, we’re hoping that there would be some parents/grandparents/carers who would enjoy coming into school for the first 30 minutes of the morning to listen to some children read. Typically, you’d work with up to three children: spending 10 minutes with them talking about the book they’re reading and listening to them read. You’d work with the same children each week: getting to know them and watching them progress. Ideally you’d be able to come in twice a week, but once a week would be fine too. We’re providing an initial training session on Monday 4th March 9am-10am in the Sylvan Community Room.
If you’d like to volunteer, please go to our website or pop in to either school office for a volunteering pack and return the completed application pack by Friday 15th February. If you’d like some further information before volunteering, please pop into the school to have a conversation with either Head of School.
